Text Box: This website is part of PhD research ‘design of floodproof urban riverfronts’ that is conducted at the section of Hydraulic Engineering at TU Delft. Aim of this PhD research is to find a solution for the difficulties in improving flood protection structures and the redevelopment of an urban riverfront in the shared realm. Is it possible to create and maintain synergy in an urban riverfront between the technical function of flood protection and urban functions, taking economic development and physical processes into account?
The conducted PhD research demonstrates that it is possible to create and maintain synergy in an urban riverfront of a developed country between the technical function of flood protection and urban functions, taking economic development and physical processes into account, by adopting the concept of Adaptable Flood Defences, the AFD concept, and by consulting the web-based decision support tool ‘Urban Flood Protection Matrix’, the UPFM tool.
This website describes the AFD concept and presents the demo version of the UFPM tool.
The PhD thesis that belongs to this website will be defended on
September 8th 2010 at 12:30 at TU Delft, Aula. The PDF version of the PhD thesis can be downloaded from this webpage shortly before the defence. If you want to receive an invitation, please send an email to: info@urbanriverfronts.com. More information on my PhD research can be found here.
